Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar (historically Koch Bihar) in North Bengal is best known for its GI-tagged sitalpati, thin silky cane bed mats handwoven in village clusters like Sagareswar and Pashnadanga, and for the Kalo Nunia (Kalonunia) aromatic rice that was a favourite of the old Koch maharajas. The district also supplies estate tea from Mekhliganj, the famous juicy watermelons grown on the chars of the Torsa and Mansai rivers, Boroli river fish, and cane-bamboo handicrafts sold through its town bazaars.
