Darjeeling
Darjeeling district is world-famous for Darjeeling tea, India's first GI-tagged product, grown across the tea gardens of the Darjeeling, Kurseong and Mirik tehsils and sold from the town's tea shops. The district is equally known for Mirik's citrus orchards, cymbidium orchid poly-houses and local jams, and for the hand-knitted woolens, carpets and woodwork produced by Tibetan refugee self-help artisan centres. Local markets also carry Himalayan-Nepali pantry staples such as gundruk, the dried fermented greens of the hills.
