Purba Medinipur
Purba Medinipur, a coastal district on the Bay of Bengal, is best known for its shell-and-cashew economy: Egra's bazaar trades in shankha (conch) bangles and ritual conch shells from West Bengal's old Sankhakar shell craft, Digha's beach shops sell seashell jewellery, and the Digha-Contai coast is a cashew belt with a famous fish market. The sweet bazzars of Tamluk and Mahishadal are known for mihidana, gohona bori (bori piped into jewellery shapes) and the moong-dal muger jilipi that became famous at Haur.
