Domjur-Uluberia painted earthenware and terracotta
Pottery
Confidence: medium
Pottery and painted earthenware have long been a local craft of Domjur and Uluberia in Howrah district: potters made toys, masks, imitation fruits and painted earthenware that were well known locally, according to Daricha Foundation's district profile. Uluberia and Howrah workshops still supply hand-painted terracotta pots, planters and clay earthenware, some on an export basis. A buyer gets lightweight natural-clay pieces with a traditional hand-painted finish at modest prices.
Typical price: ₹25-500
Buying tip: Pick pieces with even paint and no hairline cracks in the walls; terracotta pots are cheap, light and easy to carry home.
