Murshidabad, West Bengal
Himsagar Mango (Malda Himsagar)
Himsagar (Malda Khirsapati) is one of West Bengal's most prized mangoes, with a GI tag recognizing the fibre-free, golden, highly sweet pulp of the Malda–Murshidabad belt where it is especially grown. In Murshidabad, Himsagar orchards are part of the summer harvest that the district is known for, and the variety features in Bengali sweets, festivals and literature. It is available from May to June when the season peaks. Buyers get the cream-textured, almost dessert-like mango that gave the GI-tagged Malda–Murshidabad region its fame.
Typical price: ₹300-900
Buying tip: Buy only in season (May–June) when fruit is fully ripe and fragrant; choose heavy fruit with no blemish and expect premium pricing per kilo compared with common varieties.
