Terracotta Handicrafts (sculptures, planters, tiles)
Local artisans mould and fire terracotta sculptures, decorative planters, vases and tiles in the Asansol area, continuing Bengal's terracotta tradition. The district is noted for traditional handicrafts including terracotta sculptures made by local artisans, and Asansol has registered terracotta manufacturers and handicraft dealers who supply home decor as well as export buyers. Pieces include cultural and traditional art items with a natural finish. A buyer gets a distinctive regional souvenir in decorative and religious styles.
Typical price: ₹200-5000 depending on size and finish
Buying tip: Check that the piece is solidly fired with no raw clay patches, and wrap it carefully since terracotta is fragile; small planters, vases and wall pieces are the most affordable and easiest to carry.
