Mustard (oilseed)
Mustard is a major rabi crop of the district, grown in the Durgapur agricultural subdivision and listed among the district's principal crops alongside paddy, potato, til, wheat and groundnut. Studies of the district's agri-food system show farmers cultivating rice, mustard, lentils and rui as their main produce. The seed is pressed for cooking oil and sold locally. Buyers get local mustard seed and oil from the district's own farms.
Typical price: ₹150-250 per kg seed at mandi, season dependent
Buying tip: Buy after the rabi (winter) harvest at mandis when supply is fresh; check for purity and low moisture before buying seed in bulk.
