Baruipur, the district headquarters on the Diamond Harbour Road, is a working market and weaving hub for Bengali handloom sarees - silk, tussar, cotton-silk and tant (cotton) - with active clusters of weavers and retailers in and around the town. In 2023 Taneira opened a weaver 'Weavershala' in Baruipur specifically to upgrade infrastructure and scale production of silk and tussar sarees, and local directories list dedicated handloom saree manufacturers and Silk Mark retailers in the town. Sarees range from everyday tant to wedding silks, making it the main textile buy for visitors passing through the district. Buyers should compare weave density and look for Silk Mark or handloom tags; pure silk wedding sarees cost considerably more than cotton-silk and tant.
