Swarnachari Silk Saree of Bishnupur
A premium handloom saree woven on the same Bishnupuri heritage looms as the Baluchari, in Bishnupuri Katan silk with golden zari work that gives it the 'golden weave' of Bishnupur. It is a sister craft to the Baluchari but is distinguished by its zari-heavy finish rather than jacquard mythological scenes. Bishnupur's traditional shopping markets and Bishnupuri silk sellers in Kolkata deal in it as a regional speciality. It is the saree a visitor to the Malla town most often buys for weddings and festivals.
Typical price: ₹1500-12000
Buying tip: Inspect the zari for a metallic sheen that holds up to light and confirm it is handloom silk; Bishnupur local markets usually price below Kolkata retail.
