Dooars Tea
Dooars Tea is the black tea of the Dooars-Terai tea gardens that blanket Jalpaiguri district, where tea estates constitute nearly 2,000 sq km of the district and form the mainstay of its economy. Large estates such as Chengmari, Aibheel, Samsing and Mohurgong-Gulma produce the famous 'Dooars Tea', and towns like Malbazar have been known for their tea gardens and tea trade for generations. Tea is the signature buy for visitors to the district, sold in packed form at estate shops and bazaar shops. A buyer gets a full-bodied estate black tea with the estate name printed on the pack.
Typical price: ₹250-800 per kg
Buying tip: Buy packed estate tea from tea shops in Jalpaiguri, Malbazar or Majuli bazaar and check that the estate name is printed on the packet to confirm the origin of the lot.
