Jhargram, West Bengal
Jhargram Jute Fibre
Jhargram lies in the rice-jute belt of the Ganga delta, and jute is one of the district's staple field crops alongside paddy and oilseeds. The fibre is harvested from retted jute plants and sold through local mandis, feeding the jute textile industry of Bengal. As a raw fibre it is the backbone of the district's agricultural economy and is the starting point of the jute cloth and bag trade.
Typical price: ₹45-80/kg
Buying tip: Buy at or through the Jhargram mandi where fibre rates are quoted per kg; check the current mandal/mandi rate before purchasing as jute prices move with the national market.
