Jhargram, West Bengal
Jhargram Organic Indigenous Paddy (Kalabhat, Mallifullo, Sathia)
Indigenous paddy varieties — Kalabhat (black rice), Mallifullo (brown rice), Sathia (red rice) and Kerala Sundari (aromatic full-bran folk rice) — grown organically without synthetic fertilizers by the Aamon farmer producer company of tribal women in Nayagram block. The FPC, with thousands of member farmers, has built a turnover of over Rs 3 crore on aromatic black and brown rice and is the flagship story of Jhargram's organic farm economy. Buyers get premium, traditional-grain rice with a direct tribal-farmer provenance story that is rare in West Bengal.
Typical price: ₹80-300/kg
Buying tip: Look for Aamon FPC-branded packs or buy directly from the producer company/collective in Nayagram block; black (Kalabhat) and brown (Mallifullo) rice commands a clear premium over white rice, so price accordingly.
