Dalle Khursani chilli (fresh and dried)
A tiny cherry-shaped, intensely fiery chilli (100,000-350,000 SHU) with a fruity flavour, grown by hill farmers across the Kalimpong district. It earned Geographical Indication registration for Sikkim in 2020 and the GI was extended to the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts in September 2021, making it one of the few GI-tagged produce of the district. Sold fresh in the town market and as dried chillies, powder and pickles. Buyers get a premium, place-certified spice unique to this Himalayan belt.
Typical price: ₹50-500
Buying tip: Buy dried or fresh bunches at the Kalimpong town markets (Rishi Road / 10th Mile); for gifts, look for GI-marked packs and local pickles, which travel better than fresh fruit.
