Malda, West Bengal
Malda Fazli Mango
A GI-tagged mid-season mango with a distinctive tart fragrance and deep reddish-green skin, so famous that the variety is popularly known by the district's name across India. It is a staple of Bengal summers, eaten fresh, in aamrasa or with salt, and is a pillar of Malda's mango export trade. Malda's orchards produce it at scale and it is one of the GI-protected varieties granted in 2008. Buyers can source orchard-direct fruit or cartons during its June–July window.
Typical price: ₹150-2500
Buying tip: Pick fruit that yields slightly to pressure and gives a strong floral aroma; buy from Malda orchards or export traders in June–July. Fazli is tart when raw, so it is best eaten a few days after picking.
