Malda
Malda, in the Ganga-Mahananda basin of North Bengal, is known locally as the 'Land of Mangoes' and is best sold for its GI-tagged mangoes — Khirsapati (Himsagar), Fazli and Lakshman Bhog — along with raw jute fiber, for which the district is called India's largest producer of excellent-quality jute. It is also a major litchi belt (Kaliachak blocks grow most of the crop), a traditional center of Malda Nistari mulberry silk yarn with a new Silk Park at English Bazar, and home to bamboo/cane weavers around Majlishbag and wood carvers of temple raths.
